This sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? Many think that working for yourself implies a big investment at first and this is a show stopper for them. However, this is not always the case, there are many opportunities when you can start with a small investment and get to have profit.
Why does it make more sense for some people to work from themselves than to work for somebody else?
Moreover, there are people out there that are smarter than what their boss thinks they are. That can give this world much more than they do in an office environment. These people have not done so many studies in order for someone to tell them they do bad or they do good something. They need to make a difference.
There is no such thing as job security anymore, so if you are a person that likes challenges, that knows he can do it on his own as well, that has a vision and that enjoys responsibility, it is safe to say, that you will not be lost in case of anything happens to your job. Or even you may decide to take it into your own hands and become self-employed.
Let’s see below:
- You have much more to show that what your job is offering you.
Yes, 9 to 5 idea of a job sounds appealing to those that just want to work as machines do and limit their creativity and their potential. Most of the jobs out there do not even offer you the possibility to come up with ideas, to improve sales figures, to improve the work environment, to make a good change to the company. It happened to me once and I realized that moment that was not the right call for me.
- Facetime sometimes is a real waste of time and in time, of your brain actually.
The normal routine job just asks you to be present at the office, 8 hours or more per day just so they see you there. And most of the times a job does not require all that amount of time, so the dead time…is just wasted. Just for the sake of being in an office.
It has been demonstrated that people work better in places where they have fewer distractions and are more performant.
- What you aim for is bigger than what any company can offer you.
You will be able to have the freedom to achieve whatever you want to without anyone telling you to stop. And what can be more meaningful than knowing that you do it all for yourself?
- If you think out of the box, are a problem solver, you have a vision and like to make decisions, this means that working for yourself makes sense.
Making things happen and not tackle a lot of decision-makers is your strong point. Make sure you put all your mind and creativity into your project and the results will not tire of showing up.
- There is no such thing as dress code when working for yourself. Depending on the business you want to be in, you can dress according to your personality.
Staying in a corporate office may ask you to wear some clothes that you do not even wear in your free time as this is not you. Or may even dictate what your dressing will look like – as you may not afford to buy clothes for the office and clothes for free time as well.
If you stay and think about it, some big part of your money will go into clothes and get ready for the office, commuting to the office, eating at the office. Some good thousands of euros mean this – and this is a spend you can refrain from doing while working for yourself.
- Usually, having a boss really sucks.
There are very few people out there that are born to be bosses. And those that are not born to be bosses and are made do not see the real potential of their employees. They just want their employees to do what they were hired to do.
More than this you are always on watch; you are being told when to come when to live, it is like someone is making your life for you. It does not sound too nice, does it?
- A salary is never the correct view of all your knowledge and time and effort you bring to the job.
This is why it makes sense working for yourself. You are as much as you work and this challenges you to work more and give your best. Work harder and earn more.
- Choose your own hours of the day to work in.
I guess this is one of the top reasons to choose to work for yourself as an option. Having your own flexible working hours allows you to make your life a better one. The quality of life increases for sure. However, this working for yourself does not mean you stay around and linger all day long, as it will bring you no income. It is important that you stay responsible, have a schedule for the morning that is well established and get the work that you said you will do that day, done.
- There are no limits.
It is good to have no limits as you may get some unexpected very positive results. Nothing holds you back to deliver as much as possible. The sky is the limit!
- You follow your passion.
Usually, a company is born out of a passion. So doing what you love will bring you more satisfaction than you know. And in most cases what you love is also what you are good at – so bring it on! It is important to love your job and what you do, as if you are frustrated at work, all that negativity will have an impact on your personal life. So following your own passion will allow you to stay more positive. Just as Richard Branson stated “some 80% of your life is spent working. You want to have fun at home; why shouldn’t you have fun at work?”
- You will become stronger with time.
Working for yourself will sure have its impact on your maturity level. This is why it is a good step from this point of view. You will have to overcome many bumps in the road, which will make you stronger and a better entrepreneur as time passes.
- You will develop in all aspects of life.
Whilst working in an office environment is task making, it does not allow you to develop. Working for yourself will allow you to discover what is meaningful to you, what is your call and how you can achieve your highest potential.
- Have a nice heritage to be reminded by.
Though it may sound creepy at first, it is a fact people are proud of; they get to see what they accomplished, what they fought with and what their life actually meant. It is something people will respect you for.
- You feel more alive than ever.
Being in control of your life gives you that feeling of being more alive than any other thing.
- More time with your family.
While working is important to have a decent lifestyle or more than decent one, working for yourself will help you see your family more often. You get to make your own life, work as well as be around your family when they need you. And all of this without having a lot of explaining to do to your boss. The work-family balance is important in the days we live in.
All the above being said, there are good reasons why working for yourself makes sense. Before stepping up and taking this decision make sure you are that individual that can handle the tough sides that come with this as well.
Make sure your entrepreneurial personality will not be afraid after a small failure and will continue to strive; make sure you are creative and visionary and stay engaged in what you have started. Moreover, be realistic and do not live in a bubble where you think that working for yourself is freedom. This is by far true. Working for yourself is just as serious a job as working for a company where you have to deliver good results. Make sure you stick to this.
It is not all about business planning: “Business planning isn’t a revenue-generating opportunity. Instead, get started on your business so you can make money as soon as possible.” Gerber. So do not get stuck because you do not have a business plan in place. What you need to know is that you need you. No one will do the job in your place. You are the one that motivates you and do it in such a manner that it gives results.
